Are James Harden's stats inflated due to the system? How would other superstars of his tier fare with the same amount of usage?

“KD would not do well”

I mean we’ve already seen KD run a harden style offense in 2014 when he ran a LeBronesque amount of PnRs, & he was the primary facilitator on the team. They played at a 60 win pace without Westbrook. & that’s with little shooting/elite big men or Transition offense (staples of a D’antoni offense). At least in the regular season, he would easily make them a Perennial top 3 seed in a Dantoni role.

As far as OKC Vs Golden State, I think you’re applying context to one situation but not the other

& I don’t agree that KD struggles with Doubles/Traps, teams didn’t outright trap him or hard double when he was on OKC. KDs struggles in OKC was largely due to crowded/congested court with little to zero floor spacing. They legitimately had the worst spacing in the league for their stars & didn’t really run an offensive system at all like the triangle/etc so naturally that invited turnovers when your entire offense is telegraphed like that. A team like the raptors trotted out Danny Green/FVV/Lowry/Gasol who all space the floor & have great secondary/tertiary passing. Spurs/Miami/GSW all had elite spacing for their stars. So many plays where he would get the ball with 2/3 seconds left on the clock & forced to heave it up.

He was still relatively efficient during that stretch posting a 58 TS from 2011-2016 (not using rookie season). Which was highest post season efficiency during that period. He also faced elite defensive teams like the warriors/Spurs (3x)/Clippers/Grizzles so probably bring his TS down somewhat as well.

I just don’t think it’s logical to hold KD to OKC standards as the absolute value when he would’ve very likely improved his efficiency & overall game on any other contender, Specially since the league was shifting towards small ball & switch heavy schemes, & Floor spacing 4/5’s after 2016. Where LeBron noticeably improved his Ps efficiency.

Kobe/LeBron/Dirk/etc all had their most efficient postseason runs post age 31. Durant was 31 last year when he was averaging 38 on 66 TS. I think Durant is a better passer/Smarter player on offense than he was 6 years ago imo but there will always be a contingent of fans who feel otherwise & Just don’t apply any context due to their bias against a certain player so I see where people like you are coming from. I just don’t think it’s logical to disregard an entire players peak (age 27-31).

Anyways, I think LeBron/KD are the only ones who can replicate Harden style offense to an extent bc they have the size to create for themselves on high volume. Kawhi isn’t as good of a shooter/passer/ & has never played a large onball role & like you said, durability is questionable. Davis you’re spot on about, & Curry has played that role in a mark Jackson offense & The offense was middle of the pack, he’s much more valuable offball, you’re spot on about that one too. So overall, good analysis but underselling KD here by a lot imo
