The mods asked us to help host the April Fools for 2014, so we came up with a story that involved teleporting the sub-reddit into the future. So for one day the sub would be flooded with faux-content from Yogscast 2025. Threads about the finale of SoI, reactions to the new Yogscast Obama channel, Simon replaced with Cybermon, that kinda stuff. We wanted a build up to the story, so we started showing the lead-up to the time-machine-thingy with a buncha still-frames that'd show up once you down-voted something.
Like idiots (really this was just the worst fucking idea we've ever done) we just used the Smith Johnson character model and some of the account's associates' avatars as the pictures in the down-vote image, so then everyone got mad about the power-grab. The mods tried to explain what was going on but due to communications everything got worse. This was in the midst of everyone getting really mad at the mods for some error with the Yog-Bot, and all this stuff only further made everyone look like self-serving douches. I have to admit I'm to blame for most of this because I splintered off the group at this point and started joining the opposition to the Smith-Thing with an alt-account. In the end the Smith Collective fell apart due to the pressure, and the last one we left with the account decided to shut everything down.
We've (mostly) regrouped since then, started working on some new stuff, but we have no plans to return to the Smith Johnson character as he existed in the sub-reddit or to do something else on the sub-reddit. We've learned our lesson, we're leaving this place alone. We're keeping quiet and minding our own business.
I wouldn't say horrible things have happened to us. I mean most of us are better people for it. It was a humbling experience, and to be honest we were being douches.
As for Clyde, despite several PMs I can't get him to talk. Might be one of us nostalgic for the old days (for some odd reason), could be someone else. I see evidence going both ways. But hey, if the man wants to be hated that's none of my business.
