[Discussion] Some final reflections on Thracia 776.

As the guy who made a post not long back saying I wasn't one of Kaga's biggest fan, I feel like I should throw in my thoughts here. I'll admit, I was probably being too harsh on the guy. FE5 overall is a well designed game and is fun, but it still has problems.

I think my perception of this game might be a bit skewed. See, I tend to be a very slow player with FE. And FE5 does not like slow gameplay. Fatuge is (at least partaly) supposed to discurage turtaling, as you want to move as fast as possible in order to not build up as many points. And it took me a long time to adjust my playstle to accommodate that. Thus, I was pretty mad at the game because I saw it as unfair when really it was just be being unable to adapt.

I'm in the middle of replaying it now. And it's much better than I remember it being. To anyone who hasn't played it yet but wants to, please remember that the game really does get better after the early game. Manster is godawful, but it's all uphill from there.

That said, there are some problems. Unit balance is...weird. Dudes like Asvel will show up and will quickly make everyone else in the team look terrible for quite some time. On the other side of the spectrum, units like Marty, Alva, Kein and Shanam make you wonder why the fuck there even in the game. I mean, most of the crap units in this game are salvageable, but there's not much incentive to do so. Unless you want to do some sort of challenge run, but this game is hard enough as it is.

I know this is personal, but I will never like same turn reinforcements. I just think that it's unfair to have something that the player didn't really know was coming. I spent nearly the entire game paranoid that something was going to spawn in over a mountain or something and kill a staff user. I think that's the point, but it dampened my enjoyment of the game a bit. I still think 13 did this best by giving the player some sort of hint that they should watch out before spawning things in, but even that game has some moments(looking at you, Laurent's paralouge).

Alright, I'll comeback and talk about stuff I think the game did well, but I'm I'm mobile and am about to lose internet, so I'll have to save that.
