Ok. So I'm going to take the other side of this. As a convicted sex offender myself.
There are a couple of issues here. "Are you supposed to be around children," this is NOT a common condition after someone has been released from probation. Im not sure what this mans exact crimes/punishment is, but once you have completed your sentence and once the court releases you from probation, except for the registry, you are a free person. Now of course there are conditions that can be imposed by different states, and if you are on life long probation thats different. But these statements are getting ridiculous. The automatic assumptions people have on conditions they might think might be placed is crazy. FYI: The door to door neighbor notification is crap.

Unless you happen to have the Sex offender registry posted at your door, how would you know? Your plumber, electrition, carpenter, pool boy, yard worker, sanitation guy, post office worker..any one can be on the list and hold a "normal job." And who lets their child unsupervised open the door? I also noticed that there were 2-3 other people in that car. Usually when the JW's come to my house its always in pairs. What do you think this man is going to do with another person there, in public at your front door. Pedos groom..but that takes time. What can he do in the 30-40 secs it takes you to say, "No thanks not interested."
I walk around town all the time, go shopping, meet with people, attend some gatherings of town people..etc. The only ones that know I'm on the registry are my family.
All that being said: I'm not getting into the JW/Pedo fight. I'm well aware of the history the church and other religions have with pedos. I'm an atheist myself.
Change the argument a little: What if these people were getting signatures to a petition to remove Trump or Hillary? What if they were checking for Asian LongHorn beetles? What if they were ANY other group of people coming to your door?
Of course the argument comes up, What if he molests a kid in the neighborhood? Well, then he goes to jail. Being a member of the JW's does NOT give you extra access to the area or your children(unless they are in the church) Anyone with a clipboard and some nice clothing can have the same access. I could walk around there and not be noticed.
