Doctors, massage therapists, and other people who see naked bodies at work: what are most people insecure about when it comes to their bodies that’s actually super common and normal?

Upon thinking about this is I'm surprised by how comfortable most people I've experienced are - which is great. I've never had a woman apologize for hair, though I have had a few dick jokes.

I've seen some pretty weird penises and vaginas and infections and messes and 49 out of 50 of those people never mention anything. But maybe they just expect that nurses are used to it all

When people get older lots of body changes happen. I've seen penises that almost resemble vaginas for example.

I put an in and out catheter in a female patient the other day and I couldn't get any urine. I had another nurse go get another catheter because I assumed I put it in the wrong hole (female anatomy can be trickier than you'd think) and I didn't want to pull the one I'd inserted out until I put the new one in. After a bit I realized that I'd actually gotten it right - but her infection was so bad that her urine was clotting and preventing flow in the tube. No insecurity, no embarrassment.

I had a male patient recently who's bowel movement was both impressive and terrifying. He was on seizure precautions and had a padded mattress and the whole mattress was covered in wet slimy shit. It took 2 nurses and 2 CNA's to address the situation and we almost needed reinforcements. It was rather amazing. He was just chillin and watching his news during this.

There's no reason for anyone to be insecure about their body - especially if they're sick and in the hospital. If you are insecure, just realize that people who see you stuff for a living have seen it so much that it doesn't register, it's not personal. I'll remember a couple of these types of things but 99.9% of it is totally common and we'll never think about again
