[Serious] What have you done in real life that deserves gold?

I'm not looking for gold but you're probably looking for good stories.

I just bought a condo in the same building in which I've been renting for the past year. It's the one directly below the one I was renting. First time home buyer woot woot!

I closed May 01 then proceeded to paint the everliving fuck out of that condo, upgrade the power outlets and put in dimmer switches, all the fun easy shit, you name it. Cleaned the hardwood floors, waxed them, then moved my shit in. I ended up getting situated in the new downstairs condo that I own around a week ago (let's say May 15th).

Meanwhile, I've been trying to figure out how to break the ice to my current landlady that I just bought into her building and I'm putting in my 60 days notice... I don't know the etiquette. She'll find a new tenant fast enough, but I don't know how to break it to her.

She sent me an email on May 20th that she's going out of town from May 25 to June 5, so I don't need to send her a rent check until then (she's pretty awesome and laid-back). So I mailed her 2 months worth of rent checks that day, priority mail, with a 60 day's notice, and I emailed her back explaining the situation, and that hopefully she understands that I want to own a unit in the building, and that I hope she should think about it as blah-blah not losing a good tenant but gaining a good HOA-dues paying member in the building (we are a small 12 unit building beseiged by real estate investor companies, so I pounced!). She was actually really happy to see that I ended up buying, which is awesome.

But here's the kicker: On June 5th, I'm tossing her the keys so she can find a new tenant, I already fixed everything wrong with the place (including stuff that was wrong since I got there, like peeling paint on the ceiling, gouges in the wood floor, etc) and cleaned it up, and I'm not expecting her to give me any rent money back if she happens to find a new tenant soon, she can take those 2 months to find a good tenant at a rental price she feels reasonable without having to drop the price to scramble to cover her mortgage (she's about my age, bought it in 2005 for tons of money, she's underwater on it, and she's since gotten married and thus moved out).

I busted my ass to fix up her place so she can try to find a renter as soon as possible, and I'm prepared to eat a loss of a couple grand to make sure she gets enough time to get fair value on renting her place out.

That's probably my GGG moment of the month/year. I've never really saved any lives or anything cool, but I usually do selfless things to make the world an easier place for everyone to work with.

And the only reason I made this post was because I just got done throwing one coat of wax on the floor at 10pm, and I'm pretty stoked that I finished up on that, because I can go do fun things tomorrow for Memorial Day without that in the back of my head, and I can throw a 2nd and final coat down Monday, do some more paint touch-ups, and finally get that shit move-in ready so that I can enjoy living in my condo again!

PS: I've discovered how cathartic painting rooms can be. If you've never done it before, savor the prep time, and just go to town when you try 'cutting in', let the fuck ups happen (it'll happen), and after a while you'll be pro at it and you'll want to not stop!
