Does anyone know what happened to the Hand in Hand Learning Center (I’ve also heard it called Woodhaven) on Bearfield Rd?

Woodhaven is still a provider for those with developmental support needs. They have a wide variety of services: direct support professionals, personal assistants, adult day program ect. Their office is off of Paris on Hathman Place. They used to have a campus at the location you are referring to. They still own the property from my understanding, however I believe due to asbestos concerns they have not demolished it due to cost. As for why they shut down the campus in the first place, I’m not 100% sure, but the state has moved away from group homes and residential facilities in favor of specialized supports in a home like environment (Individualized Supported Living, ISL), where people with developmental support needs live in their own homes with staff who assist them. As for children drowning, I can’t speak to that. I personally have a very positive professional relationship with Woodhaven through my work as a case manager for these individuals. I do not work for Woodhaven, rather I insure they are offering appropriate care through monthly monitoring for the Department of Mental Health (DMH) who pays Woodhaven for these services through a medicaid waiver for eligible individuals.
