Why Dropbox decided to drop AWS and build its own infrastructure and network

First, allow me to say I am a big fan of Sia. The idea, the development and the team. I am also a current user of Sia as a renter (and host) currently using around 3TB of sia storage.

I work with a team of 4 other people. We are highly accredited developers.

When a project comes across our department, it means it's either 1) time critical 2) important 3) intensive of 4) mission critical.

Our job is to get it done. Fast.

We still have our VP who makes "suggestions" on how our code can be modified to be more efficient, but by the time we get the project it's already too late for planning because the initial team already fucked that up once if not more.

Now, hypothetically our teams objective is to get x.net running. We have to develop the search, the navigation, currencies, possibly a checkout all while conferring with the customer who still hasn't decided on content or wordage. Meanwhile we still need to consult to our SEO vendor and Chief Marketing Strategist.

It would be nice to be able to cache some of the website to A and some to B, but by the time it landed on my desk it's far too late. My primary job is to get it done yesterday. And leave cost effectiveness to the maintenance team. Who...hardly care about cost effectiveness. Because - once it works, why fix it.
