Duterte: US forces in Mindanao must go

the past government is letting the americans do what they want.

The war gets uglier if americans are involve. Some of these muslim groups might be able to hang back and maybe have a ceasefire but if americans are involve, thats out the window.

Only thing they are doing is cause more anger on the ground.

Can you cite some sources to back those statements up? Because this analysis seems to paint a different picture.

Some quotes:

Consider, for example, what Filipino-American cooperation has done to the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG). When Abdurajik Abubakar Janjalani formed it in 1991, this kidnapping-enterprise-masquerading-as-Islamist-freedom-fighter was able to attract as many as 2,000 followers[...] Today, military sources say there are only 200 to 400 ASG members left[...]

In Isabela, Nilo Barandino, a hospital director in Isabela, Basilan, told Kaplan to “[t]ell the American people that it is a miracle what took place here in 2002…and what was given to us by the American people, we will do our best to maintain and build upon. But there is still a shortage of penicillin. We get little help from Manila.”

When the historian Michael Hawkins did his field research in the Lanao del Sur areas in early 2000, he again would encounter similar sentiments: his respondents inquired if it was still possible for Muslim Mindanao to become the United States’ 51st state.
