Real government corporations are tied directly with the government, like the Hudson Bay company. The government takes advantage of the corporate structure and the corporation carries out government interests instead of the corporation's. The US has companies that do spawn from government programs and work with the US and may even have a genesis in the government, but even then when they're a corporation they act on their own and are just as subject to fall as any other company and can make any decisions they want. The companies the US goes our of it's way to protect are more sentimental/cultural, like Chrysler. They're protected for that reason, not because they're effective tools secretly tied to the government.
