ELI5: Why do English football fans get angry with the owners so frequently?

No idea. In all honesty, I'm an Australian fan and the price of the tickets has no impact on the fact that I've got to wake up at ~3:30am to watch us play. I want us to be competitive with the new top four financially but at the same time, I don't want the club to abandon the cultural side of things because that makes it special to me even if it's a little hard to partake in it across the globe. I love the atmosphere at Anfield when it's buzzing, I love the rich history of the club and I love seeing players do well wearing our shirt.

It seems to me that FSG are doing a decent job at that. I can't speak for the ticket prices as that's not something that has much of an impact on my following of the club (other than that higher prices ---> working class priced out ---> worse atmosphere ---> any one of a number of crises that you could push this hypothetical towards) but they're expanding Anfield in an age where Arsenal, Spurs and other London-based clubs have had to build new stadiums. They're willing to pay money and aren't too eager to sell (Suarez and Sterling both essentially left them with their hands tied and they played hardball to get us a good fee for both) and they're also committed to bringing in class managers/players. Firmino, Coutinho, Sturridge and so on are all players with realistically huge potentials that have been FSG buys. The installation of Klopp is a gigantic statement of ambition given that the last time a manager with anything even close to his reputation so much as sniffed at us was back when Mourinho/Benitez were looking at the club in the early/mid 2000s.

They leave some stuff to be desired but on the whole, I think we could be doing a lot worse with our owners. They're no Russian oligarchs or Oil Sheikhs (interesting how the consensus on them and City has shifted over the past few years - guess money does talk after all)... just the devil reincarnated in the form of capitalism. And even then, it's not as if they're eyeing up the club, just looking to snatch away money from it without being prepared to reinvest that.
