ELI5: How did baby boomers when they were young manage to pay for a house and raise a family while on single incomes (the dad working), yet today young couples can't even afford a small home and struggle to raise even one child while there's two incomes (mom and dad working)? What happened?

It's easy to call "bullshit" and hard to provide evidence, so I understand you reply without any substance. Do you or have you lived in an expensive metro? You can make 80k and feel like you're barely getting by. How much you make relative to the cost of living makes a huge difference.

I'm not saying everyone is good with money; but I am saying it isn't that simple. I know many people that work hard, for more than minimum wage, that have cell phones without data (just talk/text), minimal apartments, cheap or no cars, etc, and still have a hard time getting by. You can make above the minimum, but that doesn't mean it's enough to do more than survive.

Sometimes, there's no higher paying jobs available without ridiculous requirements; you hear stories all the time, or can go and look at postings and the requirements yourself, of ludicrous requirements for entry-level positions. Or people are overqualified and can't get hired, so they resort to lower-wage jobs.

There's a lot to consider and factor in; it isn't simply that people are 'bad with money,' but that certainly can be a factor. It just isn't the only one. There are even really affluent people that are bad with money -- NFL, NBA, MLB, etc stars that are flush will eventually spend it all and file for bankruptcy. So I get that people are bad with money. It just isn't the only component to a very real and very large issue.
