ELI5:I'm Jewish, I only hear about the Israel-Palestinian conflict from the Israeli perspective. What is the Palestinian perspective?

Well, you know it is possible to have a balanced opinion. There are some problems that don't just have a 'right' and 'wrong' solution. That said, here are some things to consider in getting an accurate idea of why a Jewish Israel is justified.

Firstly, you have to realize, for the Jews, there is no place in the world as singularly meaningful as Israel. Though Jews have consistently lived there for hundreds and hundreds of years, since the diaspora the one focus has been getting back. 'Next year in Jerusalem' is not just a Zionist slogan, it's been something to hold onto for the hundreds of years of the diaspora, where there was virtually no place in the world the Jews could go where they wouldn't ultimately be persecuted. I understand for many the straw that broke the camels back was the holocaust, but it was decided that the Jewish people needed a state decades before. All this is to say that, since there's no perfect place in the world to put the Jews, Israel was the answer.

In terms of how outwardly aggressive Israel has appeared to be since inception, you have to understand that it is because of they didn't, they'd be wiped off the map entirely. Israel is tiny, surrounded by huge countries who would rather it be leveled to the ground than inhabited by Jews. If you look at the war of Israeli independence, and the 6 day war, history clearly didn't have to unfold the way it did. On paper, it's almost unimaginable that Israel could have one. It's only recently that Israel appears to have an advantage, looking at history through a 20/20 lens.

All that said, has the Israeli government crossed the line at points? Clearly. The Israeli people will be the first to tell you that. On the other hand, if you look at the more progressive parts of the Israel, with Arabs in the parliament, lgbt rights, technological advancements in areas like irrigation and solar power, I don't understand why of all the countries in the region Israel is singled out as the problem. Do you really think that the Middle East and world would be better off if Israel was removed?

I feel like there are places here where I could have done a much better job explaining myself, so if you strongly disagree with anything definitely let me know.
