I think the story and plot is good but they try way to hard with the science. In The Orville they just say "Engage the quantum drive" and the ship zooms away. I can buy that, it's funny because they don't even try to explain it. It's just the word quantum and it makes no sense but it's pretty easy to maintain your suspension of disbelief because it's quantum.

In Discovery they use science terms that actually means something and construct this long science explanation and 90% of it is like real things and theories but then the last 10% is just gibberish and the end result still makes no sense because it's just sci-fi. So they give you this spore drive and explain all about mycelium which you can follow along with and understand but then at the end of the explanation they say "With that we can teleport anywhere in space", what? How did you get from mycelium to space travel? Wtf are you talking about? This is not how any of this works, wtf is Astromycelogy? That's not a word and wtf is an asteroid made of concentrated dark matter and how does any of this relate to the spore drive? The very long and detailed explanation of mycelium was kinda pointless if it's all gonna be made irrelevant later on because dark matter.
