Fifteen years ago today, Gundam Wing aired for the first time in the USA, here's the Toonami promo in HD as a celebration.

I've always been kinda depressed, never into sports, not too many friends, not into music yet, so I spent lots of time in my room alone with Lego building crummy robots. One day, YTV played Gundam Wing after I got home from school, it grabbed my attention immediately. I had finally found a show that spoke to me: "Holy Shit! a show about anti-hero kids my age fighting oppression in giant-fucking robots! Awesome!" I didn't know it yet but it would change me. I remember staying up on school nights when they played Gundam Wing here in Canada, (at some point they aired it close to midnight) I even managed to record every episode to tape, I had both edits of Endless Waltz. Eventually I found out about the different timelines and rented all the videos I could find, (yes, even G-Saviour) I was hooked. Then I found out about the figure line... My parents were really supportive of my Gundam habit. I had bought every figure I could find, my father even drove me two hours to the Gundam truck the year it toured North America. Eventually I had every figure except for Epyon and I pined for it, calling toy stores every week. That devilish looking mobile suit haunted my dreams for months. Then one day my parents came home from grocery shopping and they called me aside. My mom was smiling, they said they had something for me. My dad tossed me a grocery bag, and to my disbelief they had actually found it, Epyon was now in my hands at last! It was such an epic surprise for my pre-teen self, it was like the holy grail for me at the time. Though it may seem silly to get that excited over a piece of plastic, I still have that Epyon figure today, and since my parents have passed away I cherish it even more for the memories it holds. Now every time I hear Two-Mix or Watch Gundam Wing it kicks me square in the feels. On the bright side, now my Gundam figure collection is bigger than ever and still expanding! As weird as it sounds Gundam actually brought me closer to my family.
