Firefighters put out Tesla fire that kept reigniting in NorCal

In HS, my chem teacher took us to the nearby creek to show us the reactivity of Potassium with water. We watched the hissing and explosions. Then we watched a Large Mouth Bass grab the last (and biggest) chunk tossed into the water. We all are both horrified and entertained by this as we waited a few second before an underwater explosion followed by most of a fish corpse floating to the surface.

Lithium is on the same column of the Periodic Table of Elements. I always wondered why they'd pick that column to power batteries in devices where water would be the go-to reaction for putting out fires started by those devices.

I guess some engineers out there just want to watch the world burn, so long as they get good battery life out of it.
