For the male nurses, did you find you were treated differently than your female coworkers?

Depends on the department, but the short answer is “yes”. I don’t share my personal life at work because it becomes a topic of conversation. I can’t be friends with coworkers without someone implying something sexual. Most activities outside of work activities are geared towards women, men are excluded.

It’s really unfortunate, and it makes a lot of the things women typically complain about in terms of inappropriate male behavior seem completely hollow to me given how eagerly many of them engage in the same types of disrespectful behaviors. The things many women casually say about men are absolutely foul.

Seems like people behave themselves a little more when there’s a better balance of genders. And, of course, not everyone is an intolerable asshole, but there are enough of them that I semi-frequently question my career choice.
