Found these morels growing out the side of my parents house. Do I need to worry about chemicals in suburban areas?

Your comment makes no sense for multiple reasons. Which is what I was trying to point out to you. Dose makes the poison means that toxicity is not a static thing - water becomes toxic in high enough concentrations. Also, mushrooms do not simply uptake elements of their environment which may be toxic to humans. Fungi posses enzyme sets frequently capable of degrading many compounds we consider worrisome. Most of the agri and industrial chemicals people tend to worry about tend to be hydrocarbon based - which some fungi have no problem with. So yes, I am calling you out to support your comment because it’s precisely the sort of empty, ill-informed repetition of this concept that I am skeptical of.

Saying that mushrooms ‘pick up toxins’ is unspecific and meaningless.
