“Geek culture is home to some of the biggest assholes”: “Ghostbusters” Paul Feig director lashes out at Internet

We don't have a problem with a new Ghostbusters film. We have a problem with how this film is completely lacking respect for the work of the creators of Ghostbusters, including attention spent to gags, visuals, camerawork, cinematography, music, and many many other factors. If tomorrow, they announced this film was cancelled and in it's place, they cast EXACTLY the same four women to play the four Ghostbusters, but this time the following happens:

  1. It's announced it will take place in the same universe the original film took place in, and the women now run the New York Ghostbusters Flagship Franchise.

  2. The original cast don't even have to have cameos, but it references how much the characters respect Egon, and Ray, and Winston and yes, even Peter. Perhaps we see photos, or footage, etc.

  3. The Ghostbusters use equipment that isn't "rebooted" but a continuation of what fans have been building for the last thirty three fucking years, including the classic Ecto-1. The story is fresh and new and fun and big and adventurous.

  4. The humor is carefully written and crafted, with jokes in this film being the kind that last for decades, repeated and go on to become some of the great jokes in cinema history.

  5. The writer/director doesn't feel the need to include jokes about slime getting into unmentionable places, or jokes that predate the original Ghostbusters film, or scenes where a character violently slaps another character while screaming in her face about Jeebus and the Devil, and maybe just MAYBE...no jokes about having a "sexy" receptionist who draws pictures of "boobs" on the logo.

Then yes, then we would be ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY COMPLETELY AND WITHOUT ANY METAPHYSICAL DOUBT EXCITED AND HYPED AND READY TO FUCKING SEE THIS MOVIE AND THROW OUR MONEY IN YOUR DIRECTION WITH RESPECT AND LOVE AND WE'D BE CHEERING FOR A SEQUEL.

Sure, there are lots of assholes out there that criticize women because they're assholes. Agreed. Those people are terrible people.

However, try, just...TRY and make the Ghostbusters movie with the guidelines I've written and see if you can hear the criticism while you're being carried on the shoulders of cheering fans to the red carpet premiere.
