The way I see it, there are three types of people who believe in gender abolition:
I believe the first two groups think gender abolition is a good idea because gender for them has been largely oppressive: the feminists because they are women, the non-binary people because binary gender is so inappropriate for them. I disagree with them, but I also understand where they are coming from and don't mind discussing it.
The third group just wants to derail present efforts to help transgender and GNC people by presenting some lofty, far-off ideal goal as preferable. “Wouldn't it be better if no one cared about gender at all? Then you could be happy without mutilating your body! Let's work on that instead.”
