General questions about CU

My friend told me I should try to live in Baker dorm because apparently you can smoke in your dorm? Is this true? Can I smoke weed in other dorms?

You cannot, by policy or state/federal law, smoke (or otherwise possess) marijuana on campus. Baker Hall is no exception. You should not count on any anecdotes from your friend(s) about being able to get away with it, because the staff and residents change yearly.

Baker may have a slight advantage on the smoking front because it has forced-air heating/cooling, so everything is generally less “stale” feeling.

Has anyone gotten in trouble at CU? What happens when you get in trouble, can I expect to be fine or will CU involve the cops? Like say I get in trouble for smoking weed, what will CU do?

CU has very robust and aggressive policy enforcement mechanisms in place, which most freshman hugely underestimate. It’s college, so can get away with a lot, sure. I’d say we invest much more in enforcement than most other PAC-12 schools, and to many freshman’s surprise, CU is not the Wild West.

Some RA’s may be more relaxed about policy enforcement in general, such as saying “hey, it smells really dank. don’t let it happen again.” That said, Res Life policy requires RA’s to contact CUPD for everything (marijuana, other drugs) besides small quantities of alcohol, wherein the residents do not appear to be a hazard to themselves or others. If you are contacted by an RA or CSO, 8.5 times out of 10 it will be documented via Incident Report and you will be sent a conduct notice, and have to meet with your Hall Director. If you are found in possession of marijuana/paraphernalia, or other drugs, CUPD will be called and you will get an MIP, plus that Incident Report. In either scenario, consequences are progressive on both the Student Conduct and Municipal Court sides, so you don’t want to get caught multiple times.
