German court rules against comic Boehmermann over Erdogan poem

That is just not true. We just had an example in Denmark where Gimi Levacovic, father and leader of the infamous criminal Levacovic family, was to be deported to Croatia after being charged with a number of crimes. He already has a long record. This family has received massive media attention, been in documentaries, and generally have been used as an example of why our immigration rules are messed up because they continue being on benefits and being criminal and are not deported, which everyone wants them to be. Our politicians talk about them by name and all want them out. Not only the political majority, but the popular majority, want them out.

The Landsret (higher than a city court, lower than Supreme Court, we have 2 in Denmark covering the eastern and western parts of the country), found that Danish law would not make it possible to deport Gimi Levacovic to Croatia, citing human rights, that he speaks no Croat, that he came here as a 3 year old, and that he is the only person who has custody over some of his children, who need him.

Our politicians were furious, as were many people in the media and the general population. Naturally, this was headed for the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court upheld the ruling that he could not be deported.

You would not imagine how many red-faced and angry politicians went to their keyboards to express outrage on Twitter. The Minister of Justice wanted rules changed, the Minister of Integration too, etc. — just like everyone else, these people (who are still in the government and so in a better position to do so) have to get a motion for a change of law to be discussed in Parliament so that Parliament can accept or reject the proposal.

Two lessons: 1) No, the judges are not just there to "flow" with the political majority. They are there to judge based on the laws. 2) Even our politicians have to go through the same process that Ia m telling people here to do if they are dissatisfied. They need to go through the democratic process so that a motion can be put before Parliament and things can change.

This is not rocket science.
