Gis internships seem impossible to land

We had an internship opening at our local municipality in SoCal and received over 180 applicants over the last 3 weeks. The job market is especially tough in the entry level range.

As a Senior GIS Analyst who plays a major part in hiring for entry level, you need to work on your database and programming skills to be competitive. Understanding Python and having working demos for your portfolio is almost a requirement these days.

Keep your head up and keep learning. Find what you like the most about GIS, and take courses and work on projects that showcase these skills. Create a website for your portfolio and when you get an interview let the panel know how excited you are just for the opportunity.

Also, be willing to relocate.
