I’ve always thought the fact that he was seen several times holding a gun, wearing a ski mask, calmly riding a bicycle or running down the street while butt naked from the waist down so surreal. It’s like what I imagine an insane serial rapist would be portrayed like in some cartoonish dark comedy sketch. If I saw that in real life I would have to question what I was seeing. I’d imagine he had to have clothes stashed somewhere to change but it just always struck me as so bizarre. Seeing a grown man in a ski mask naked from the waist down out in public or even worse, waking up to him in your house or outside your window would be so jolting anyone would immediately call 911. It almost makes me think he relied on that shock, got off on it somehow, he was very intoxicated, really had some screws loose or had some sort of mental deficiency.

It goes beyond just reckless abandon and into WTF territory. I’m almost sure there’s more to the story and I have to imagine it involves drugs (wasn’t ‘crank’ popular on the west coast at this time?) and that he acted like an insane psychotic tweaker because he was one. His MO is such an odd mix of carefully planned steps (like the extensive recon, unloading weapons, unlocking windows, planning an escape route, stacking the plates, etc) and just absolute psychotic reckless abandon. My only explanation is that he did the legwork sober and then got extremely fucked up on something and basically went on a semi-guided rape-fueled psychotic rampage. Even victims said his mannerisms and speech patterns were extremely bizarre. I mean, you JUST committed this horrible crime, the awful deed is done, you need to get away ASAP and not get caught yet you hang out and eat someone’s cold leftovers standing naked in front of their fridge? Even for a criminal it’s so horrifically bizarre you have to assume this person is not in their right mind or even fully conscious and that their behavior isn’t guided by any logic whatsoever.
