The H-1B visa program is a scam: the intent of the H1B program is valid and correct. The implementation and administration are horrible.

You didn't even bother to get it, now you're going to blame the company for not going through trouble?

I don't know how many times I have to point this out, but they insisted that having a minor was enough and their lawyer OK'd it. It was all fine and dandy during the entire interview and offer process. I didn't hire an immigration lawyer to go through the law and check every detail. Everyone I trusted to know better than me (including the said advisor) gave a thumbs up! It was only when going through the actual visa application that this came into light. Minors were no longer a problem. And this was not the company lawyer who brought this up. It was an immigration lawyer. Basically, a clusterfuck and everyone quickly scrambled to cover their bases. Think about it! You are stranded in a town that you know no-one and you're busy trying to just get home and see where you can go next. It was during this process of retreat that the college advisor came into this information. It wasn't an obvious fact laid out in the open. She had to go through my entire history and paperwork (she was on vacation too!) only to find out this detail. This was before even lawyers were mentioned for petitioning.

I know I can petition. However, at this point it's almost an exercise in futility. Essentially, I want to move on. Having a degree that states "Liberal Arts degree in Econ & Maths" isn't much of a difference to "Liberal Arts in Econ & minor in Maths". I have nothing in my future that will care whether my undergrad degree was major or minor. That's fact! If I ever want to go into grad school, it won't be a factor (my work and Econ degree cover the bases). If I ever want to go back in US, it doesn't matter anymore that I have a STEM or a 'worthless' degree. That was all politics back when it mattered.
