In my honest opinion I can’t hate him but I also don’t like him. His character design like many others is great and I’m a fan of water/ sun breathing in general. The problem however is that I would like him way more if he was hating demons instead of showing respect for them. I understand that demons were also humans before with feelings and such like his sister Nezuko who got forced to become a demon but that doesn’t mean he has to show respect and be kind to all of them. Of course there are people who you should feel bad for like Akaza but he is an exception. I would have preferred if he hates demons and wants to kill them all for what Muzan did to Nezuko but I can understand if you say that most characters already think that way. Tanjirou also doesn’t change as a character. I understand why that is the case because he changes the people around him but I just don’t think it’s executed well. For example he talks once in his life to Muichirou in the swordsmith village arc and that reverts his entire character in his fight with upper moon 5 to who he was before he took on the personality of his dead brother. He is fun to watch and very caring but he just could have been so much more in my eyes.
