I can relate to your friend as I’ve been in the same place before and I think over time I realized it was more because I was just floating along, I didn’t have any goals or anything I really wanted in life, no purpose or sight you could say. I’m not saying you need a purpose in life or a decided path, but something that keeps you going and gives you hope.

It’s the same in any relationship tho honestly, it sounds crazy to talk about it like this ik lol, but even if you are obsessed with someone irl and have nothing ELSE pushing you forward in life, and you lose them or they date someone else, it’ll be a lot harder than if they were just a part of your life rather than your whole life. Not saying it’s bad to be madly in love or anything at all, I hope I feel it Fr one day, but I think you’ll always be better off being somewhat self sufficient instead of being ENTIRELY wrapped up in your relationship.

I wouldn’t say anything like or about this to ur friend tho. Trying to logicalize feelings has to come from within. I think the best is just to try and be understanding and if you can make an effort to cheer them up.
