Hello! I need some explanation about oxford english

Okay, so for #1 here are my thoughts: I don't think you would use "phoning" as it would suggest present tense/something that is currently happening. For example you would use it like this: "I am phoning you." "Phoned" suggests past tense/something that happened in the past, which would be the case here since it happened earlier in the morning.

For #2 A, B, and C I'm a little confused. In the questions your teacher provided it says to complete a second sentence but I don't see a second sentence in any of the questions you posted, only the first sentence and your answers. If there's a part of the questions you left out I think it would be easier to answer having those, otherwise it seems like there could be multiple interpretations or answers.
