I'd say, don't look for furry friends, because "furry" is a messy hazardous cesspool and if you dive into it with your filter being "I want to find furries" rather than something specific, you will get hurt.

Look for friends, reach out in safe ways to furries if you feel like you could be friends with them anyway. Make furry a hobby, take it slow, evaluate, don't lower your guard too easily. It's important to treat it as just making friends, not friends with some special "other". That way at least you have a chance.

I would just avoid furries altogether aside from lowkey sfw discussion type things. Anything else feels too hazardous to me. That's just me though.
