Homeless situation

I was involved in the process of laying the groundwork for the homeless shelter up on Avenida del Sol. I had been volunteering at an ad hoc shelter set up by a local church. The community decided that it needed a more permanent solution.

That is still one of the best shelters that I have seen anywhere. I don't know what their capacity is like right about now.

Back in 1989, I had a good friend who had built himself a hogan up Horse Gulch. Durango was a pretty sleepy town at that point without an avid mountain biker community.

Returning for a visit in 2018 summer, I was impressed with the city sanctioned (though officially unpermitted) camping arrangement in the direction of Hogsback. I thought it was great. Apparently, however, the community was having some difficulty digesting this phenomenon.
