I'm sorry but I have to ask; do you just have massive hands or is this a perspective/camera thing?
(I'm guessing perspective has some part to play but even then...)
And that's not a bad thing - massive hands/fingers usually means bigger fingernails, which means more space to work with and you can have pretty nail art! (Personally I think it would be awesome to create a mini replica of Starry Night as nail art, for example)
But beyond that I have no tips. Other than as others said, quick drying. And if you like a shade but not the affect of it (say, it's shiny when you don't want shiny) get a clear polish in the affect you do want. Paint with the colour. Dry. Then a thin layer of the clear. I did that with a pink I liked and it made it matt! But I don't really paint mine all that often. Painting a thin layer of clear polish on top can also sometimes preserve the vanish and have it last longer, depending on the types used
