Kierkegaard's Silence on Slavery

I think I agree that Kierkegaard can be criticized but it ought to be done with full historical context. Admittedly I find it quite uncomfortable that Kierkegaard may not have been overly concerned about slavery. Intuitively, it seems like he would have despised slavery based on what I’ve read... However, he was greatly concerned with the spirit over the body. It could be the case (this sounds too apologist!) he felt slaves were already strong in spirit and beloved by God because of the immense suffering they were forced to endure. This is a distinct problem I’ve had with Christianity. Some Christians have an admiration for people who are suffering because of their assumed relationship to God with no outward attempts to alleviate the suffering. I absolutely do not believe that any apologist ideas should stop anyone from critically examining his silence. However, silence is not always compliance either which is why I think a careful approach is warranted.
