Hoping to Interview an App Developer

Thanks for agreeing to doing an interview! I put down 21 questions that I wrote/found online. You can answer as many questions that relate to you.

  1. What is your job like? - Do you work/own a company, if so what is it called?

  2. What apps have you developed? (I'll use this to ask more specific questions later)

  3. A typical day? – What do you do? – What kinds of problems do you deal with? – What kinds of decisions do you make? – What percentage of your time is spent doing what? – How does the time use vary?

  4. Why does application/software development interest you, and how did you get started?

  5. If Applicable: How did you get your job? What jobs and experiences have led you to your present position?

  6. Can you suggest some ways a student could obtain this necessary experience? For example, I’m planning on taking a computer science class next year, would that be a good class to take to get into app development?

  7. What are the most important personal satisfactions and dissatisfactions connected with your occupation? What part of this job do you personally find most satisfying? Most challenging? What do you like and not like about working in this industry?

  8. What things did you do before you entered this occupation? -Which ones have been most helpful? – What other jobs can you get with the same background?

  9. Around How much money do you make?

  10. What development software do you use? Eclispe? Android Studio?

  11. If Applicable: What company do you work for and why did you decide to work for this company?

  12. If Applicable: How would you describe the working atmosphere and the people with whom you work?

  13. Are there flexible hours? Good vacation time?

  14. If you could do things all over again, would you choose the same path for yourself? Why? What would you change?

  15. How do you single yourself out from the crowd of other apps out there? What types of training did you go through before entering this field? How well did your college experience prepare you for this job?-Is it at all related to your daily work?

  16. Does it matter if the college you graduate from is reputable when getting a job in this field?

  17. Do people contract you to develop apps for them, if so how much do you charge them?

  18. How did you prepare for this work? If you were entering this career today, would you change your preparation in any way to facilitate entry? If you were a high school student wanting to go into this field, what would you want to know beforehand? Would you suggest learning multiple programming languages?

  19. What type of experience would you suggest anyone entering this field have in order to succeed?

  20. Are there any words of warning, special pieces of advice, or encouragement you would give from your personal experiences?

  21. What is your ultimate goal? where are you hoping to end up?
