AITA for asking my roommate to ask me before buying stuff

NTA. It’s hard living with roommates. It’s not unreasonable for you to ask her to send the group a message before buying something that she expects you all to pitch in on.

In fact, that was how things were when I had housemates. If they all wanted to get an item that I didn’t think was necessary, I’d tell them I wouldn’t be contributing and I wouldn’t use the thing. The whole idea of everyone pitching in on appliances never really made sense to me long term — when people move out who gets what?

Not everyone’s situation is the same and sometimes it might be uncomfortable admitting that you don’t have the finances for certain things, but at the end of the day we can’t all be paid crazy wages working for mommy and daddy on the weekend.
