How hard is it to rebuild the whole engine?

I agree. I’m not a mechanic, but I’ve watched people with no mechanical experience start a job after watching a video, thinking they know it all, but don’t have the experience to know what they’re looking at. Are the valves leaking, what constitutes a good bore, how to not drop that little screw down into the crankcase etc. Fixing something twice is always more expensive than getting it done right the first time.

Having said that, there really is only one way to learn, and you’re better off learning on that bike than playing mechanic on a much newer one. If you’re happy to take the risk of making mistakes, go for it, you’ll be super stoked having done it successfully.
