a lot of time reading conservative Christian books and media

I wish this was an indication of their ability to be persuaded by faith and reason, but Christian media is largely palliative, written to assuage any anxiety about your spiritual journey. "You're Going to Hell; Here's Why" doesn't fly off the shelves. Even "the greats" of Christian literature can be mostly summarized as:

You, my dear, Godly, Chosen, reader are wonderful and beautiful and should rejoice in God's majesty and all of His creation and hopefully don't have to endure too many slings and arrows...just remember that you are God's most perfect humble servant (though still a "sinner" of course) so just soldier on in Christ knowing you're doing it right and everyone else is doing it wrong...

Like, the more of that one consumes the more certain they are gonna be. Maybe there is a way to subvert that conditioning but that's "the enemy" talking so I dunno.
