How do you tell your family you're traditional?

My mom had a near meltdown when I told her last December that I was quiting my IT manager job to be a SAHM. I'm not kidding. Nevermind the traditional part - I'd let her figure that one out on her own.

I had several motivations for wanting to quit. At the top of my list was that I was starting to hate the corporate rat race. The second was that I really wanted to spend time with my daughter and baby son. That's where I really wanted to be. I just dug my heals in and explained it to her. My dad was there but decided to stay out of it.

Come find out what really upset her was that she wouldn't be babysitting my kids anymore. I thought that she and dad would appreciate more free time together. Come find out, that's what they liked to do together.

Long story short, I got a part-time teaching job in the mornings twice a week. So while I was teaching I would drop the kids off with her. Problem solved.

I think she still doesn't like my decision, but it's my life. As long as my husband's okay with it, then that's all that matters to me.
