I have a problem conflating racism and antisemitism. My grandparents died in the camps and were enslaved. My great grandparents, great uncles, and aunts were murdered. And yet, though I try to be my true Jewish self at all times, I am seen as a white person by a system that has rewarded my white appearance consistently. I don’t know anything about Desean Jackson’s heart, I certainly don’t take him at his word that he didn’t mean those words to be offensive to Jews. Antisemitism is everywhere. Racism is everywhere. It’s irreplaceably ingrained in every single person that’s honest with themselves. But I know that here in America, a reckoning on racial justice would help not hurt the conversation on antisemitism.
