James Gunn: "If you’re complaining about the ethnicity of Mary Jane your life is too good."

Wow, this casting rumor was actually a non-issue for me until I read this tweet and started thinking about it.

On one hand, I get him. They are just comic book characters, they ultimately don't matter. Someone is different in the movie than they were in the comics? Who gives a fuck, let's judge the character build in the movie. I get that.

On the other hand... it is because they are loved comic book characters that these movies exist, why they took off. When you stop following the source material, what does that mean? Does the desire to see certain parts of the comic on the big screen really warrant a "sick burn yo" from the creator who owes his current fame to these comics? The racist fucknuts who go into extremes do deserve all these burns in the world and then some, but is the desire to see certain characters as they were in the source material, as you were picturing them your childhood, bad?

I dont think so, though no, it doesnt warrant a riot. Maybe it's just the time to leave the comics behind entirely.

I guess Gunn can get away with it extra because he is a mostly the one who made Guardians popular, not the other way around.
