June Assignment - Creative Writing

Title & Background The Footmaiden and her Twig is also known as The First Wand Choosing, and is a popular introduction for young witches and wizards into the mysterious magic of wandlore. The story is primarily verbal, with several small variations having developed over time due to families tending to change details for their child's interest. The earliest known existence of the story is a song, written by XXXXX in the Hellenistic Period, approximately 2200 years ago, meaning the story has been passed down over 100 generations.

Recently, the Wandsmith Wand Troupe has developed a retelling of the story through the use of illusions, charms, and enchantments, which they perform in the round for audiences no larger than 100. In 2013 this performance was done for a small group of muggle authority figures for nearby countries in an attempt to ease muggle leadership apprehension of the magical society.

The Story

10 points: (1-2 paragraphs) The title(s) and background of your story. What are/were its chains of transmission? Written, oral, dance, painting, wandcraft, fiber arts, pottery? How did you first become aware of this story? 10 points: (3-10 paragraphs) The story itself. Does it have a moral or immoral ending? Was it intended as a warning to young wizards and witches? Or is it a story so gory that the versions normally told have been expunged of all the parts of the truth that you alone have been able to find? 5 points: (1-2 paragraphs) What is the importance of this story to modern wizarding life? Has it inspired any modern versions by current Wizarding artists? Has it influenced the development of Wizardkind, like the tale of the Deathly Hallows? Has Dark Magic come from this story, or been counteracted by it? 5 points (Guaranteed Bonus): Illustrate a scene or motif from your story. Note: This picture must be your own. You can use any medium, and I will be reverse searching questionable images to ensure students do not cheat. Anyone who attempts to submit an image that is not theirs will not be graded.
