Interesting thing is it's almost a replay of the fight from 11 years ago. Somehow both fights indirectly involve Burr and Patrice. The fight from 11 years ago is about Burr, Patrice and Rouse being frozen out by Opie. This time Opie is basically upset because Burr is no longer freezing Anthony out of Patrice's benefit. That time Jimmy is tired of Opie big timing lesser known comics like Burr and Patrice. This time Jimmy attacks after Opie quietly tries to intimidate a lesser known comic like Esther for daring to mention Ant's name. Both times there's alot of talk about Opie being the boss and Jimmy not wanting to be one. At this point, it's like come on Jimmy you're almost 50 time to make a power move against the power tripper and become a boss or at least an equal partner. This time, Opie tells Jimmy to quit. 10 years ago, he tells Jimmy to quit bringing his comic friends to the show - he essentially tells Jimmy I don't give a fuck if you stop bring the comedy cellar crew around. Opie uses the same emotionally manipulative female tactics and guilt trips, repeatedly calling Jimmy crazy and personally attacking.

Basically, for the past 10 years the strengths of the show have been Ant & Jimmy playing off each other and the hang of the old tough crowd comedy cellar crew. During the old fight, it's clear that Jimmy saw the potential of bringing his friends to the show, but Opie didn't see it all. The old fight is essentially about Jimmy bringing tough crowd to the radio show and Opie resisting him. Jimmy is basically screaming, hey dummy, we're trying to reinvent the show here but you're fucking it up by repeatedly treating my friends like shit. It's clear from the old fight that Opie fucking loves celebrities and wants the show to be about that even back then. It's interesting to listen to both back to back. There seems to be no end to how many layers there are to how much Opie was determined to do shitty morning zoo radio and how much everyone had to work around that hack impulse to create great radio.
