Let's share some accounting hacks and advice. I'll start.

  • Save a macro on your personal workbook that highlights selected cells. It's super useful to highlight things green or red while reconciling.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, there are already buttons for this.

  • Keep a microsoft word document saved on your desktop with all the passwords and logins you need.

Terrible idea. People have been sacked for less.

  • For ongoing files, put what version of the file it is. For example "DistributionScheduleV17" This helps with fixing mistakes and organization.

Or just use a proper file versioning system.

  • If you need to remember to do something, nothing beats a post it note.

Or a reminder on outlook. Probably better because then you have to action it at a certain time or admit you're not doing it.

  • If you end up with too many things saved on your desktop, highlight everything and throw it into a folder called "desktop." The feeling of an empty desktop will calm you.

Or just don't save things to your desktop like a plebeian.

  • Write EVERYTHING down. Always have a notebook with you.

This one isn't too bad but make sure you keep hold of the notebook.

  • Small chunk things. If something seems too hard, break it into progressively smaller chunks until it seems easy enough to start.

Probably the best tip here.

  • When you have to do something that is soul crushingly boring, think of it as mediation. Your mind will drift from the work. Acknowledged that, and return back to focus without judging yourself.

My whole day is meditation.

  • Ask for help.

Do some basic research and problem solving first or you'll just look bad.

  • Everything takes longer than you think.

Agreed.

  • Avoid using the mouse.

Agreed.

  • Print stuff out.

Unnecessary. First try to go paperless and see how much time you save.

  • You have the most brain power in the morning. Use it to attack the hardest thing first.

Agreed.

  • Get addicted to that mildly pleasant feeling of getting things done.

Who isn't already?
