The earliest work in magnetic implants was performed with the intention of external mounting of objects. It was quickly determined that the pressure involved in retention quickly lead to a loss of circulation and tissue necrosis and it was subsequently dropped from development. Steve Haworth took this research and a friends anecdotal report of being able to feel fields with a piece of metal that had embedded in his finger accidentally to create the first sensory magnetic implants. Attempts to replicate and surpass the previous work in magnetic retention implants merely validated the previous experimenters conclusions as NO test subject was able to take a magnet strong enough to hold without tissue damage resulting in the interface zone.
