Mahershala Ali's emotional speech at SAG Awards 2017 as he accepts best supporting actor for Moonlight

The Western World is far ahead of the Middle East. It is a backward region of the world. I'm not saying that this man or any other well-known Muslim people persecute or even that many Muslims themselves persecute or terrorize, but simply that countries where Islam is practiced aren't at all tolerant or friendly to any liberal world views. That's why I think it's a pretty ironic scenario when this man brings up his converting to Islam as having some relevancy to being tolerant and loving. And of course, I have regular interactions with everybody, including muslims, but that doesn't mean anything. That's like saying that because two men both wipe their asses with toilet paper, that they can and do love harmoniously together. I wish it were the case, but such an elementary approach doesn't apply to reality. I don't assume that just because someone's Muslim that I would wish harm upon him, but I certainly recognize that the Islamic culture holds a very different world-view than that of the Western World.
