Man climbs the US-Mexico border while people are working on it

Agreed fully. As Canadian (who came to Canada as an immigrant), both sides of the US debate sound ridiculous.

Canada is seen as a tolerant, immigrant friendly country. But it is actually quite strict with its immigration rules. Canada doesn't have millions of illegal immigrants in it.

Even the recent surge of illegal border crossing we saw after the Trump presidency was of people who went straight to authorities after entering, got arrested, and soon claimed asylum, giving them legal status while their asylum claim is determined.

The conversation in the US needs to be about making the legal immigration and asylum system better rather allowing people to just walk in or sinking into xenophobia territory.
