March 16, 2017 - "Donna Brazile" - The Daily Show with Trevor Noah Episode Discussion

I didn't think it was a strong piece at all to be honest. Wilders is a career politician and has been a figure in Dutch politics for the past 20 years so subscribing his loss to Trump is just shortsighted. Wilders' loss probably had more to do with the political games that were played within the Netherlands (i.e. Rutte excluding the possibility of a coalition government with Wilders, Rutte's strong performance over the last weekend with the Turkish situation, etc.) than it had to do with the Dutch looking at Trump and going "we don't want that". Apart from their strong anti-EU and anti-Islam rhetoric and their love for Twitter, Trump and Wilders aren't even all that much alike. Furthermore "they took our jobs" ranks very low on the list of reasons why people vote for anti-Islam parties and Rutte is not a centrist on the Dutch political spectrum. The statement that populism became second is also a bit oversimplified because it looks at Dutch politics through the lense of the American 2-party-system. Wilders did get the second most votes but 130/150 seats will go to non-populist parties. Not to mention the whole "I don't know or care about the name of the Dutch PM" was pretty stupid and the whole taking pride in your ignorance shtick was very lame. I get that I'm not the target audience (being Dutch) but still I was a bit let down.

(Also he didn't pronounce Geert correctly though it was very close)
