Moving to DC from Manhattan with the GF - Trying to narrow down neighborhoods

You're very welcome! If I were you, I'd suggest the following:

  1. Go to big bear cafe and chat to the staff if they aren't too busy.
  2. Do the same in Pub and the People - sit at the bar.
  3. Go for a walk around Crispus Attucks park. It's hidden, access through the ally, so you'll need to look at a map. Talk to the people there. Most of us are very friendly.
  4. If you have time for dinner, pop in to the Red Hen.
  5. Walk or use the capital bikeshare to get to/from either New York Avenue/Shaw Metro.
  6. Walk into Shaw (I'd recommend All Souls bar) so that you have a sense of that distance.

Bloomingdale north of Rhode Island is a bit quieter but also less accessible. Be sure to walk around both sides - up first street, but then also along some of the side streets (Adams, R, S, Randolph, etc).

Here's a write up in the Washington Post from a couple of years ago.

I'm starting to sound like the Bloomingdale tourism board... sheesh.

Good luck with the move!
