Moving to zurich

Is it a permanent move, or temporary? If it’s permanent just send your kid to the local school. He’ll make friends quickly, and easily pick up German in a year. He’ll be offered additional free German tutoring once or twice a week and you’ll be eligible for additional support from the state for that.

We have a five year old, born here in Zurich, but I’m American and my wife is Japanese so his primary languages prior to starting school were English snd Japanese. After 2years in the local preschool and a year in kindergarten he’s completely fluent in German /Swiss German and has many friends. It’s been great for widening our circle as well.

I would never consider sending him to a private school unless you are here for a fixed 1-3 years.

Feel free to DM me if you want. Also I have to at least partially agree with MiamiDude. We’ve lived here (Kreis 8) for 9 years. It is expensive. Your cost of living will be similar to La Jolla California or San Francisco if you live in “downtown” Zurich.
