Best way to find apartments in the Zurich and surrounding areas?

No I was born and raised here actually :) Going off to university very soon, or the army with a bit of bad luck. But that's another problem. Regarding Wollerau, and also including the neighboring towns bäch, freienbach and pfäffikon, the certainly aren't the most beautiful (but I don't know what you like, so that's very subjective). Wollerau for you will probably seem tiny, and it is, but thats how lots of towns here are. It does not have direct acces to the lake of zurich, its a bit on a hill, but with a train you'll be at the lake in 5 minutes. There are some, mostly older houses in the 'centre' (probably from the 1960s/1970s) but also very modern ones a bit outside that overlook the lake (roger federer lives there). From there to zurich doesn't take too long, and you'll have most of what you need around you, such as small grocery stores or bigger ones in the towns next to it (in richterswil) or a shopping mall in pfäffikon. Wollerau is a bit special, it is one the one hand a normal village but also you can see the forests from out of your window and is surrounded by nature. I don't know what you prefer, wollerau is a very small, quiet and calm town with not too much going on but also very safe and your neighbours probably would be well-off, as it attracts wealthy people with one of the lowest taxation rates in switzerland. But you won't be happy if you're looking for a brand new apartment, as there are very few apartments on homegate there and those that are aren't new. You might have more luck in freienbach, bäch or pfäffikon, of which i think bäch and freienbach are nicer places (less industry than pfäffikon) but all of those places aren't that cheap and those that are are quite old. But nonetheless, its nice and quiet around here. If you like old-towns, you probably will like rapperswil, which is also near to wollerau and I know lots of people that think that it is the most beautiful town around here. But I don't know it too well. And as 'last option' you might want to consider richterswil, a neighbouring town of wollerau but higher taxes (its part of the canton zurich) and locatwd at the see. There you have a bit more choices than in wollerau for apartments, have acces to the lake (beautiful in the summer), have big grocery stores and there is a bus (5 minutes) to wollerau. I think that richterswil might be a good option to consider. Then again, there are lots of towns near wollerau, and it might be best to look for all of them on homegate. Also, you might try to look for images of the towns to get an impression and you could also use google street view to check out your potential future homes.
