My first piece with all wood joinery! Both the highest and lowest I've felt during a project

I wanted to build a low profile sitting stool so I could spend time more comfortably in front of my daughter's bouncers or tiny chairs.

I made this out of a 2x6 of southern yellow pine, and while it was cheap, it was a PITA dealing with the sap. It gummed up sandpaper quickly, coated my blades and even seized up my plunge router on the last mortise.

The wood has some interesting grain but I'm not a fan of unfinished pine, or the reverse grain on stained pine. I did some homework, conditioned the wood, used a gel stain and it turned out bad.......just freaking real bad.

So I admitted defeat and painted it black. I'm bummed you can't see the through tenons anymore but hey, it's strong and serves its intended purpose.
